RISE are back with a fresh intensity on “Hard To Leave You”, the latest song from their forthcoming release. Built around the band’s signature rock sound, this new Barbarian mix lends greater vitality to a song the group clearly thinks deserves another chance in the spotlight.
RISE Sam Kinley, aka stayMellow, on bass and vocals, Paul Kinley on keyboards and backing vocals, Alex Mahoney on drums, and Brian Petch on guitar have taken the 2024 version of “Hard To Leave You,” which was originally included on the Memories and Possibilities EP, and given it a much-needed lift. The final product is a forceful, driving track that tries to portray the intensity and aggression the band feels when playing the song live.
One of the track's best elements is StayMellow's vocal delivery. The song is delivered with a dominant presence thanks to his impressive range and passionate delivery, pushing the pace while adding plenty of feeling to the performance. His work with RISE once again reveals a natural match for the band’s music. There’s lots to enjoy in Brian Petch’s guitar work too. In the remix, the guitar is more prominent and played with a confident, detailed touch, becoming a defining feature of the tune and contributing to its driving feel without detracting from the spirit of the original.
The interesting thing about "Hard To Leave You" is its goal. This is not just a rehash for its own sake. RISE felt the 2024 recording didn’t quite reflect what they loved about the song, so the Barbarian mix was made to bring fans closer to the energy of their live performances.
