Every Other Weekend strikes a soulful chord with “Resolution”

Manchester’s indie culture has a proud history of making emotionally rich music, and Chris Bull’s current project, Every Other Weekend, is just that. The band’s third song, "Resolution", is a big step toward their long-awaited first album, "All Present and Inept", which has been seven years in the works.

"Resolution" is a song that carries its history proudly. Bull transforms a period of personal turmoil, grieving the loss of his father, the failure of his first marriage, and the implosion of his previous band City Reign, into a song that straddles the line between raw susceptibility and clarity. The result is a sound at once intimate and broad, a subtle mix of contemplative writing and captivating indie-rock instrumentation that grabs the listener’s attention.

The single shows Bull’s knack for writing tunes that stick with you long after the song is over.  Every guitar line and rhythmic change is purposeful, mimicking the peaks and troughs of the experiences that inspired it. But the song’s universality, for all its intimate origins, speaks to anybody who has weathered life’s storms and emerged on the other side with a guarded optimism.

"Resolution" is not only a single, but it is a creative perseverance statement. It presents Every Other Weekend as a project that can transmute the volatility of life into music that is at once relevant and interesting. With All Present and Inept on the horizon, the single is a tantalizing peek of an album that promises to be a carefully produced, passionate trip across the emotional landscape of its composer.
