Fred again.. and Young Thug blur the line between velocity on “scared”

Fred again.. keeps making movements out of moments. The London-based producer released a new single, "Scared," with American rap legend Young Thug that feels both personal and huge. This song doesn't rush to explain itself, instead, it lets mood, feeling, and texture do the talking.

"Scared" is based on a sample from Young Thug's unreleased song "Lucky." It has a feeling of something that was hidden before coming to light. Fred again teased the song for the first time during a Twitch livestream last November. That original version is still there in the finished version, it feels lived-in, tested in real time, and shaped by connection rather than calculation.

The partnership is a meeting of instincts. Fred again leans into emotional tension and restraint, while Young Thug's presence adds weight and contrast without overpowering the song's subtle core. Boo, Fred Gibson, Miles Parks McCollum, Nate Brazier, and Young Thug wrote the song, and Boo, Fred again.., and Nate Brazier produced it. The song has a good mix of structure and spontaneity.

The music video, directed by rubberband and starring Brandon Bendell and Mar Del Corral, expands on the song's emotional world. Fred simply called it the second of three connected visuals, following "hardstyle" and leading into a final chapter yet to be revealed. That feeling of a story unfolding is like how "scared" fits into his larger world.

"Scared" is not just an extra track on Fred Again's latest album, "USB" it's an important part of an ongoing and evolving project that now has 35 tracks. It's another picture in a diary that is always changing. It shows the quiet tension of fear and the beauty that can be found inside it.
