"Always The Same," a new song by Welsh singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon and American icon St. Vincent, comes out on January 8, 2026. It has a quiet electricity to it. The song doesn't rush to introduce itself, instead, it slowly reveals itself, inviting the listener into a shared emotional space shaped by trust, history, and creative kinship.
This is the first time the two have worked together since St. Vincent's 2024 album All Born Screaming, where Le Bon was already a big part of the project as a co-writer and bass player on the title track. That familiarity comes through here, not as repetition but as improvement. "Always The Same" sounds like two artists meeting up again at a different time of night, which adds depth to the conversation.
Cate Le Bon wrote and produced the song, and Samur Khouja helped with the production. It emerged from the sessions for Le Bon's seventh studio album, Michelangelo Dying, released last September. The song is still very much in the emotional and creative orbit of the album, even though it didn't end up on it. Le Bon says that "Always The Same" just needed more room to breathe, and it now has that space with confidence.
That feeling of being open is a big part of what makes the song work. Le Bon's thoughtful songwriting and production make room for St. Vincent, who Le Bon says has "composure and gravitas." The dynamic feels real, not like a show, grounded in mutual respect and a shared understanding of how complicated emotions can be.
"Always The Same" isn't about coming up with new ideas, it's about recognizing the patterns we keep going back to and finding new meaning in them. Cate Le Bon and St. Vincent's collaboration is intimate, thoughtful, and quietly powerful. It shows that sometimes going back to familiar places can be the most revealing journey of all.
