James Abercrombie explains, I wanted to write something catchy and upbeat, like some of the classic tracks from bands like The Primitives. He knew he had created something special when his 14-year-old daughter, Olive, started singing it while doing her chores around the house.
The song cleverly hides deeper emotions beneath its cheerful surface. With bright 12-string guitars, fun handclaps, and a playful tone, it captures the joy of childhood while also hinting at a sense of memories. James mentioned that I wanted to explore the idea of sad clowns and how happy songs can sometimes touch on sadness.
Recorded at Standard Electric Recorders in Atlanta with producer Damon Moon, the studio session was a joyful gathering of family and friends. The couple's youngest daughter, Ora, who is just 8 years old, and a friend added handclaps to the track. The song also showcases James's favorite 12-string guitar, which adds a lively touch reminiscent of the upbeat sound found in some classic hits.
