Kev Howell steps into the past to shape the future with "Twenty Three"

Kev Howell is back with his first single, “Twenty Three,” which is the lead track from his upcoming album, "It’s Gonna Get Heavy" The song evokes a dreamy feeling, like stumbling upon an old photo you didn’t remember having. It’s catchy and showcases Howell’s confidence as an artist who knows his direction.

“Twenty Three” was created partly at his home and completed at Maybank Studios, where Tim Debney, a well-known mastering expert in London, polished it. The effort put into the song radiates from every note, providing a blend of personal reflection and a sound that feels both intimate and expansive. It captures the spirit of a past golden age of music while still feeling relevant today.

“Twenty Three” is inspired by the indie and folk sounds of the late ’90s and early 2000s, reminding listeners of the breezy feel of Britpop and the heartfelt honesty of singer-songwriters from that time. It shows influences from bands like Oasis and The Verve while bringing in Howell’s own modern twist. The song weaves together themes of innocence and hope, exploring the bittersweet nature of time.

What sets Howell apart is his ability to balance confidence and openness in his music. It has the energy reminiscent of Jack White mixed with the catchy melodies of Noel Gallagher, while also drawing on the atmospheric styles of bands like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Radiohead. The result is a sound that feels both familiar and fresh, lingering in your mind long after it’s over.
