MARS_999’s “EŠTE NIE SME STRATENÍ” is a gritty slovak anthem of hope

Bratislava-based artist MARS_999, also known as Juraj Péč, has just dropped a new single, “EŠTE NIE SME STRATENÍ” This track feels like an intimate late-night revelation that lingers in your mind like a heavy memory.

This song is the second release from his upcoming debut album, set to come out this fall. It serves as a reminder that the most personal stories often make the most significant impact. Péč handles everything himself, from writing and performing to recording, which gives the song an authentic feel, as if it were crafted during late nights filled with deep emotions. Imagine the vibe of Bon Iver paired with the energy of Nine Inch Nails, all infused with a uniquely Eastern European soulfulness. The music is dark and rough around the edges, yet beautifully captivating. It doesn’t just hang out in the background, it fills the entire space with its presence. Produced by Rohin Brown at the well-regarded Faust Studio in Prague and mastered by Matt Colton, who has worked with notable artists such as Thom Yorke and James Blake, the song boasts a polished sound that retains an earthy grit.

The track starts with a gritty guitar riff that feels heavy and slow, as if it’s struggling against something. Then, the drums kick in, creating a sense of tension without being overpowering. Just when things seem like they might become too intense, Péč bursts forth with powerful chorus lines, filled with rich synth sounds and his emotive vocals. It’s a fascinating mix of post-punk energy and uplifting pop elements that somehow come together perfectly.
