Kristen Ford’s “Whiplash” is a gut-punching anthem for a disillusioned generation

Kristen Ford's new single, "Whiplash," released through Righteous Babe Records, is the second single from her upcoming album, "Pinto" If "Whiplash" is any indication, the album promises to deliver powerful and relatable themes.

Co-written with Matty Alger and produced by both John Driskell Hopkins of the Zac Brown Band and Ford herself, "Whiplash" blends folk and rock music with deep emotions. It starts off feeling like a personal breakup letter, but quickly expands into a broader and angrier commentary on the disillusionment many feel about adult life in today's America. The heartbreak Ford expresses goes beyond personal experiences, it touches on societal issues as well. Her lyrics resonate with many, addressing topics like the burdens of student debt from education that was supposed to lead to success, the erosion of rights we once took for granted, and the youthful hope that characterized the 2010s, now overshadowed by the challenges of the present.

The music video for "Whiplash," directed by J.P. Riley, complements the song's themes with visuals that alternate between personal moments and chaotic images, reflecting the emotional ups and downs portrayed in the music. Overall, "Whiplash" explores feelings of romantic disappointment and grief, all while showcasing Ford's unique storytelling through sound.
