Griffin Tomaino confronts his past with bittersweet clarity on “guilt”

There's something deeply emotional about ending a journey with music, and that's precisely what Griffin Tomaino achieves with his latest song, "guilt," which he released at the end of 2023. The 22-year-old artist, previously known as GR7FF, has shifted away from his pop sound to reveal a more personal side of himself. After releasing his debut album, "It's All for You", last August, following his earlier EP, "My Own Worst Enemy" in 2021. Tomaino comes back with a fresh sense of openness and emotion.

Released on December 29, "guilt" feels like a quiet sigh at the end of a significant year. The song is filled with emotion, featuring rich yet understated sounds that match its thoughtful lyrics. Tomaino wrote this song a few years ago and initially tried to record it himself. Although he faced challenges at the time, he later realized the song meant a great deal to him. With the help of producer Graham Stone and an instrumental from Mantra, he was able to create the version we hear today.

The result is a powerful yet gentle exploration of regret and the feelings that linger after difficult choices. Tomaino's voice shines with honesty, conveying both memories and determination. "guilt" isn't about seeking forgiveness, it's about recognizing the impact of past decisions. This song perfectly encapsulates a year in which Tomaino has truly established himself as a solo artist. "guilt" takes us even deeper into his world. There are no flashy distractions here, just a man reflecting on his memories in a quiet moment that allows for release.
