Brighton's post-punk band Public Body has just released a new single, "Reset My Password," the third track from their upcoming EP, "Flavour Of Labour," set to drop on August 14th through Permanent Creeps. This song captures the frustrations of modern work life with sharp, witty lyrics and a signature style for the band.
Written during the lockdown, frontman Seb Gilmore reflects on the oddities of staying productive during a crisis. He shares how, during the peak of the Covid pandemic, people praised healthcare workers, which made him question his role during such chaotic times. One day, while working from home, he received a reminder to update his password, sparking the idea for the song. He expressed feelings of insignificance and the sense that everything was falling apart around him. The track, produced by guitarist Theo Verney, packs a punch into just two and a half minutes, blending pulsing rhythms and edgy guitar sounds. It's a commentary on the pressures faced by office workers who often feel overwhelmed and unimportant, especially with constant reminders of deadlines and tasks.
Gilmore's vocals are both intense and straightforward, supported by a tight rhythm section from bassist Joe Steven and drummer Thom Mills. The addition of Tom Bacon's synths brings a modern touch to the song, emphasizing the contrast between daily office life and chaos. With its energetic blend of ideas, "Reset My Password" stands out among their previous tracks, offering a thought-provoking and danceable take on work and identity in today's world.
